The purpose of this docent-led educational tour is to showcase how the historical experiences of Wilmington's African American community are integral to the history of Thalian Hall. Its purpose is also to highlight what was happening culturally and socially regarding race throughout the history of Thalian Hall, to give context to the significance of some of the events that have happened here, and to celebrate some of our great performers and speakers throughout the years - including the famous operatic contralto Marian Anderson pictured here when she famously sang at the Lincoln Memorial for a crowd of 75,000 after being refused at Constitution Hall. Anderson sang at Thalian Hall April 27, 1925.
