Making Memories: A Journey through Dementia

Wednesday, May 8th, 2024

7:30pm

The Dancing Wheels Company’s newest production, Making Memories: A Journey through Dementia, is an immersive program that combines performance art with dementia education. The Dancing Wheels Company & School joined forces with hospitals, memory care facilities, facilities for aging adults, and individual caregivers and created Making Memories: A Journey through Dementia (MMJTD) to increase the understanding and recognition of diseases related to dementia and Alzheimer’s. MMAJTD is an evening-length program composed of two dance works choreographed by Mark Tomasic (“Proof” and “Three 4 Ann”); video documentary featuring interviews of people living with dementia, caregivers, and dementia/Alzheimer’s health care professionals/specialists; plus, audience discussion.

Dancing Wheels will be accompanied by TFADC (The Dance Company of Theatre for All) with an original piece choreographed by Kim Henry titled "Shadow and Light." TFADC is a company for people with disabilities who are passionate about dance. As Executive Artistic Director of Theatre for All, Kim Henry established the dance company (TFADC) in January 2022. TFADC explores a wide range of styles and themes, and honors the power of movement to convey ideas and create connections. This piece is titled 'Shadow and Light', and is about the universal human experience of facing our own fears and limitations to break through to a lighter, freer place. TFADC continues to overturn outdated stereotypes about people with disabilities and reframe what and who we consider art and artists to be. TFADC is beyond thrilled to be opening for Dancing Wheels and we want to thank you for this wonderful opportunity.
